The word poor refers to humble, blessed are the humble
Humble: marked by meekness or modesty in behavior, attitude or spirit, showing submission, respect
James & peter speak of Humbleness
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and he will lift you up(James 4:10)
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God that he may exalt you in due season (1Peter 5:6)
when we humble ourselves God will exalt, raising up in rank, character or status
