THUMBING THROUGH THE SONG BOOK

I  love to research the History of the older Hymnals, the old red back hymnals & hymnals alike are almost a thing of the past the song I Am Determined To Hold Out To The End was written by Leander Lycurgus Pickett & copyrighted in 1909

from: http://www.hymntime.com/tch/bio/p/i/c/pickett_ll.htm

Pickett was a Methodist evangelist who conducted meetings in a number of states and at Holiness campgrounds. He and his wife Ludie served in northeast Texas, Columbia, South Carolina and possibly elsewhere, before settling in Wilmore, Kentucky. The two of them were prominent local players in the founding of Asbury College in Wilmore in 1890, and Leander served as the financial agent of the board of trustees for many years. The Picketts also helped by boarding young ministry students from Asbury, among whom was missionary E. Stanley Jones. In 1905, a prayer meeting among the students at the Pickett home spilled out to the Asbury campus in a revival that spread around the town of Wilmore. Perhaps the Picketts’ greatest gift to the world was their son, J. Waskom Pickett, who attended Asbury College and become a missionary to India, rising as high as Bishop of the Methodist Church in India.

read  more about his wife here http://www.hymntime.com/tch/bio/p/i/c/pickett_ld.htm as you read you will come across  a link on their son & the ministry he’s in, this is the first song I’ve come across that is packed with so much History

HOW HUNGRY ARE YOU FOR GOD?

As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. Psalm 42:1-2

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1

even though Peter knew the Lord he still says how he wants to know him in Philp.3...:10

why do you suppose people are no longer hungry ? what is quenching their thirst that they no longer pant for him like the deer by the water? The word is preached, yet they do not receive for surely the word(meal) will be presented again, so they stay away, they remain hungry but the meal (word ) is now replaced with junk food (cares of this world) they are so thirsty that they are spiritually dehydrated,he stands at the door & in his hands the bread of life & living water but he wont stay there long, don't wait till the door is locked before you realize just how hungry you were

POEM THE TELESCOPE OF HEAVEN

THE TELESCOPE OF HEAVEN

The telescope of heaven
Looks down on earth each day
Seeking for a man who will
Turn to God and pray
Will you be that one
Who will turn his heart aright
Seek the Lord while He may be found
Leave darkness enter light

His way is the highest
His thoughts above our own
We shall leave this earth below
And enter heaven's throne
Upon our time while waiting
The lost world needs Him too
We are to be the fishers of men
It's what He's called us too

His cross has left its imprint
On hearts who know the Lord
Never are we the same again
Who've trusted in His Word
The dynamic now of living
For we've been born again
His love keeps on giving
Seeking still lost men

Time is still a marching
Then comes eternity
We can make the difference
To set a captive free
No longer do we live our lives
As they are but our own
We have come unto the cross
And knelt before His throne

He is still the King of Kings
In earth and heaven above
Our purchased, prized possession
Who shed His precious blood
Cast thy burden on the Lord
For He can set you free
The telescope of heaven
Is waiting now for thee

ARE YOU A GOOD STEWARD OF GODS MONEY

STEWARD..... A person in charge of household affairs

And the Lord said who then is that faithful and wise steward whom his Lord shall make ruler over his household to give them their portion of meat in due season

(LUKE 12:42)

this chapter speaks of different ones having stewardship over their households. Someone who tends to their affairs I want us to focus on “his Lord shall make ruler over his household” & go to Prov.31 with me

  1. she looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness

the virtuous woman is a married woman therefore she is the steward of her home , she doesn't have a maid if you will but making sure everything is is taken care of & that the needs of her family are met

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might

(Ecc.9:10)

Being a good steward of our money doesn't necessarily mean we don't have it, or can't afford something

Being a good steward of God's money is simply changing our thought process from can't to can , from get it to do I need it

as it was getting near time to go to the grocery store, *thought*do we go to the groc. Store because we need to or out of habit? I recently came across a blog post about eating from the pantry/fridge/freezer, now we all say it .. there's nothing to eat, I began to give this some thought, yes I could go to the store, yes I had the money to go to the store

so I decided to be a good steward of God's money in this matter of buying groceries, & began to look deep into the pantry, the fridge & the freezer, I seen beans lots of beans lol, staples such as flour , sugar etc., a few eggs, 1/2 of a rotisserie chicken etc. the link I referred to suggested that you make a list of everything that's in the pantry/fridge, freezer & plan meals around it, to my surprise I got eight meals from what we had, three of which we had leftovers

*chicken-n-rice, chicken-n-dumplings,egg salad club,pancakes & bacon, stuffed eggs, sausage gravy & biscuits

what did I gain from doing this? Beside the fact it was fun putting our heads together to see how many meal arrangements we could actually come up with, it goes to show we are far more blessed than we realize

A good man obtaineth favor of the Lord but a man of wicked devices he will condim

(Prov.12:2)

Deut.6:18 tells us that if we do that which is good in the sight of the Lord, it will be well with us and we will process the good things the Lord has for us, we can look around at our circumstances & truly say my cup overflows with his blessings

(Prov.23:5)
